World No1 Iga Swiatek has been knocked out of the women's singles by Zheng Qinwen.

The 23-year-old suffered a 6-2, 7-5 defeatin the semi-finals.

Medal race ABANDONED

This afternoon's men's skiff medal race was ABANDONED due to high winds.

Team GB's James Peters and Fynn Sterritt were sixth when the race was stopped.

It has not yet been determined when the race will be able to resume.

Wightman WITHDRAWS from Olympics

Team GB medal hopeful Jake Wightman has been forced to withdraw from the Olympics.

The 800m runner has picked up a hamstring injury which means he will not be on the start line next week.

GB beat France

In the end, GB got the win they were expecting - but only after a real struggle.

James Albery’s deflected shot six minutes from the end brought a narrow 2-1 win and completed GB’s third comeback of the tournament to ensure them a quarter-final slot.

Yet the relief written across the faces of Paul Revington’s side was clear after they had trailed the worst team in the event until four minutes before the close of the third quarter.

Zach Wallace held his nerve to convert a penalty flick after Sam Ward’s shot was blocked on the line by the body of Timothee Clement.

That cancelled out the lead France - who shipped 15 in their first three games - had taken when Clement’s cross-shot had a double diversion off the sticksof both Conor Williamson and then Jacob Draper.

But with time running out, Albery finally found a way past inspired home keeper Arthur Thieffry.

British tennis stars Katie Boulter and Heather Watson have been knocked out of the women's doubles following a 6-3, 6-1 defeat to Italians Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani.

GB level in hockey

Back here at Yves-du-Manoir and FINALLY it’s jolly hockey sticks as GB level through a Zach Wallace penalty flick.

Paul Revington’s team have been miles off the pace and it took until four minutes from the end of the third period.

Sam Ward successfully asked for a review to earn GB’s 11th penalty corner and the masked marksman’s flick was blocked on the line by the body of Clement.

The umpire immediately signalled the penalty stroke, with Wallace converting low to Thieffry’s right - and showing his passion as he ball thudded against the backboard.

A draw will be enough to get GB through - but they would probably then have to face in-form Belgium in the last eight, while nudging ahead in the last quarter will earn a better draw.

Even so, the most important thing is to avoid another French sucker-punch.

Defeat would leave them staring at likely ELIMINATION as the first criteria when teams are level on points is matches won.

GB face 100 per cent Germany in their final match, while France play South Africa, who are already out of contention.

Out at the Palace of Versailles, GB have qualified for tomorrow’s team showjumping final - but they will have to improve to trouble an outstanding German squad.

Ben Maher led the way for GB with a clear round on Dallas Vegas Batilly, with Harry Charles and Scott Brash having one fence down each.

That guaranteed a top 10 place with half the field still to complete their third round.

But Germany’s three riders were all faultless and they will be huge favourites to top the podium.

Way down in Chateauroux there’s huge disappointment for shooter Seonaid McIntosh.

Edinburgh markswoman McIntosh, 28, got off to a flying start in the 50m three position rifle as she led with 199 out of 200 in the kneeling position.

McIntosh then shot 198 out of 200 from the prone stance to stay in the top four, with the leading eight to qualify for tomorrow’s final.

But it all went wrong in the standing element as McIntosh only scored 189 to drop to 12th.

Frustration and then some as GB men TRAIL at half-time to the worst team in the tournament.

Britain have had 13 shots and nine penalty corners but have been unable to find a way past inspired home keeper Arthur Thieffry.

You could see the tension starting to rise with miscommunication between the players.

And the roof would have come off the Yves-du-Manoir stadium - if the other three sides had one - when France went ahead with 46 seconds left in the half.

Timothee Clement was able to bring down an aerial and fire across goal, more in hope than expectation.

But a double deflection off the sticks of both Conor Williamson and then Jacob Draper befuddled keeper Ollie Payne.

Skipper David Ames immediately called his men into a huddle. I reckon you’d have heard the home cheers on the Champs Elysees…

'A really good race'

British swimmer Duncan Scott qualified for the men's 200m individual medley semi-finals this morning.

He told BBC Sport: "I probably wasn't that quick, but I felt alright. It will be a really good race tonight, I'm going to have put something out that to get to the final."

Scott beat French superstar Leon Marchand, who won two gold medals last night, in his heat. He added: "It's really special walking out, they see his name and going nuts. It's really cool, you can hear them coming out for him it's special."

French fervour at the former home of the nation’s sports teams, but Great Britain men should ease through to the knock-out stage in their fourth pool match.

France used to play their football and rugby matches at what was the Stade Colombes and on the walk up there was a picture of legendary Russian goalkeeper Lev Yashin in a match against Les Bleus in 1962.

Quite a few hockey pictures, too - proof that the game is played in France.

But so far France have looked utterly out of their depth, shipping 16 goals in three matches in the women’s tournament and just one fewer in three for the men.

Slightly sluggish start from GB so far, with Gareth Furlong fractionally wide from their only penalty corner. A long, hot, way to go.

Fight stopped

Boxer Angela Carini stopped her controversial fight with Imane Khelif after just 46 seconds.

Carini, 25, took a pair of shots from Khelif, who last year failed a gender test, before abruptly choosing to end the contest.

The Naples-born star did not acknowledge her opponent after the bout, as Khelif tried to approach her.

Sky Brown suffers injury

Team GB's superstar skateboarder Sky Brown dislocated her shoulder on Sunday before flying to Paris for the Olympics.

However, the 16-year-old still has every intention of competing in next week's women's park skateboarding event.

Brown won a bronze medal back in 2021 at the age of just 13, making her Team GB's youngest-ever Olympic medallist!

It involves AlgerianImane Khelif who was disqualified from the Women's World Championships last year for failing a gender eligibilitytest.

Oli Wilkes, David Ambler, Matt Aldridge and Freddie Davidson have taken bronze in the men's four final.

Bryony Pitman’s individual archery medal hopes are over after she was eliminated in the last 32 by Li Jiaman of China.

Pitman, a former world No 1, has admitted she is struggling to find her A-game.

And after seeing off Angela Ruiz of Mexico in her opener, Pitman was unable to repeat that against the Chinese.

Pitman had scored 111 out of 120 including a perfect final end in that first match but second time round she was seen off 6-0 in three straight ends, scoring just 80 out of 90 with a single gold on her final shot.

She said: “I felt better, a lot less nervous. But the shots just weren’t as clean.

"I hit a lot of 9s, I don’t think I shot particularly badly, but it’s difficult when you lose every set by a point. It was a close match but that’s just the way it goes."

Good start to the day at Les Invalides in the heart of Paris as archer Bryony Pitman has won her opening knockout match against Angela Ruiz of Mexico.

Pitman came through 6-2 in four ends, sealing the match with a maximum 30 score with three successive golds - hitting the 12cm centre of the target from 70m away.

But less positive news from the judo hall where Emma Reid's hopes were ended in a golden score ippon defeat at the hands of Yoon Hyunji of Korea.

It's fair to say the judo team, like the boxers, are having a tough time in Paris.

'It was very overwhelming'

Team GB women's quadruple sculls gold medallists were on BBC Radio 5 Live talking about their dramatic victory.

Lola Anderson said:"I think Lauren Henry, our Bow girl knew first, she was confident from about 600 metres out that we were going to come through.

"Lauren said that she saw on the board GBR and one on the board and she started screaming, it didn't sound like sad screaming."

Lauren Henry said:"I think quite a lot of the cameras caught me crying my eyes out.

"I was lucky to have my team-mates around me to hold me together a bit and also help me celebrate and take in the moment.

"We're not used to this type of media coverage following us around. For me personally, that was very overwhelming, even more so getting our phones back and seeing a huge outreach."
